Muslim Dialogue Network (MDN) is asking mosques to cancel events with more than 50 participants, including Friday prayers and weekend schools.

On Wednesday, the network sent out advice to all mosques to take steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

So far, mosques are advised to cancel all events with more than 50 participants. Elderly and others at risk should not go to mosques, the recommendation reads.

The Muslim Dialogue Network states that they follow the situation and advice from the Institute of Public Health. The recommendation is also addressed to other Islamic organizations that are not members of the network.

For those who are uncertain whether there is a religious basis for canceling Friday prayers and similar gatherings, the dialogue network refers to the website of the European Council for Fatwa and Research.
