Norwegian author Jan Grue has been awarded the Swedish Per Olov Enquist Prize for 2020.

Jan Grue shows how a biographical work can take advantage of the possibilities of the novel at a time when the boundary between the genres is constantly being challenged, the jury pointed out.

“The book is both heartbreaking, candid, and analytical in a way that requires precision and a confident stylistic pen,” the jury wrote.

Grue has received glorious reviews for his recently published novel If I Fall (in Norwegian: Hvis jeg faller), including a good review in the New York Times by none other than movie star Michael J. Fox.

The Per Olov Enquist Prize is awarded every year to young writers making their way out into Europe and was established in connection with Per Olov Enquist‘s 70th birthday in 2004. The Swedish author died last year.
