It´s been a pleasure to work in collaboration with the Fritt Ord Foundation to strengthen the position of documentary photography internationally and in Norway, says Tone Hansen, director at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter.

This fall the art center at Høvikodden presents 35 photographers with projects spanning the last decade in the exhibition Norwegian Documentary Photography. While the photographers are Norwegian, they work from all over the world and presents a variety of themes and subjects.

The complexity of documentary photography increases day by day, and the exhibition reflects a great diversity of documentary expressions, both in the field of photographic photography and in contemporary art, says the curator at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter Susanne Østby Sæther.

All projects presented in the exhibition are the result of dedicated photographic research over time, made possible through support from the Fritt Ord Foundation and the Norwegian Journal of Photography (NJP). The exhibtion presents a wide range of expressions, forms of work and themes. Overall, the exhibition offers several ways of seeing and understanding the events and situations that shape the world we live in today.

The Norwegian Journal of Photography (NJP) is an arena that brings together and supports selected Norwegian documentary photography projects and presents them in a publication every other year. NJP was established in 2011 and is part of the Fritt Ord Foundations commitment to strengthen the position of documentary photography in Norway. In conjunction to the exhibition Norwegian Documentary Photography at Høvikodden, the fourth publication in the series will be published.
