The Norwegian Opera & Ballet is canceling all performances throughout the year due to the new infection control rules.

The government’s new infection control measures place significant restrictions on the number of spectators at cultural events. The new rules only make it possible to use less than 5% of the audience capacity at the Opera.

The infection situation also entails an increased risk of infection and quarantine for actors on and behind the stage, and thus also an increased risk of cancellations, the Opera wrote in a press release.

“We know many people have looked forward to visiting the Opera’s performances before Christmas and during Christmas.

“It is, therefore, with a very heavy heart that we have to cancel these performances,” marketing and communications director Kenneth Fredstie said on Tuesday.
