Labor politician Marianne Marthinsen has written a novel unfortunately inspired by actual events.

Through the book Selveiersanger, Labor politician Marianne Marthinsen will make her debut as a novelist. The work deals with themes like cohabitation, the Me Too movement, and politics. It’s inspired by real events.

One of the characters in the book is dubbed “His Majesty.” He’s a male minister who has to resign because of misbehavior toward female employees, NRK wrote.

Marthinsen rejected that some of the book’s characters were directly based on real people. But the novel is inspired by real events regarding the Me Too movement in politics, she explained.

“It is not written as a settlement. I do not need any settlement. Maybe readers can rather look at it as a form of comment,” Marthinsen said.

Marthinsen will retire this autumn after 16 years as a Storting politician. Her book will be published by Aschehoug Publishing House at the end of September, 2021.
