The Norwegian Post’s (Posten) famous “Gay Santa” Christmas advertisement, which won hearts and minds here and worldwide, won the “Goldfish 2021” award at the annual Norwegian advertising competition.

The famous “Gay Santa” Posten advertisement, celebrating a half-century of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Norway, has won the prestigious “Goldfish” award at the annual Norwegian advertising competition.

The annual competition celebrates the great and the good of advertising in Norway during 2021. Posten’s advertisement, made in collaboration with advertising agency Pol and production company B-Reel films, was judged the most popular amongst viewers out of a total of twelve other films.

Hege Barbara Aarhus, manager for the private market in Posten, noted another achievement for the company. In her thank you speech for the award, she said that “Norwegian Post has been the winner of Sølvfisk three years in a row, and then it is extra fun that it was exactly this story that won, because it is an important story.”

The commercial is based on the 1989 Hollywood film “When Harry met Sally”. It became a favorite in Norway and further afield due to its heartwarming portrayal of Santa Claus as being gay and featured a gay kiss.
