The Norwegian Post is launching two new stamps with motifs from fairy tales and legends on April 22. Most European postal companies will issue stamps with the same theme in 2022.

“For us in Norway, it was natural to choose holders and trolls as motives. In earlier times, popular belief was not the same as superstition. The relationship with nature and the underground (forces) controlled the way people lived in many ways,” stamp director Halvor Fasting in the Norwegian Post stated in a press release.

The hulder was designed by Wictoria Nordgaard, who specializes in such motifs. The second stamp shows a troll and a car, taken from a scene in the Norwegian film “The Troll Hunter” from 2010.

“I got a friend to be the model for Posten’s holder. We went to the area around Sognsvann in Oslo and took pictures that I later used when I drew (the stamp),” the artist said.

The stamps have a value of NOK 28 and can be used on ordinary letters to Europe.
