Minister of Culture Abid Raja (V) is requesting a meeting with technology giant Microsoft because the Outlook email app will no longer use New Norwegian and 26 other written languages.

“I would like to invite Microsoft to a meeting and encourage them to secure their position in the Norwegian language. It means taking into account New Norwegian in particular,” he told NRK.

In the past, both Vestland and Møre and Romsdal county have come up with a call asking the technology giant to turn around.

Microsoft has decided that New Norwegian and 26 other written languages will be removed from the Outlook app on Iphone and iPad by the end of June.

“We are doing this to create a cross-platform across Microsoft 365 apps for iOS,”
said spokesman Tone Kjensmo for Microsoft Norway.
