Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve has been adjusting to a new lifestyle, full of glitz and glamour, since the runaway success of the twice Oscar-nominated film, “Verdens Verste Menneske” (The Worst Person in The World).

From the Norwegian stage to the Hollywood red carpet

When Renate Reinsve strides the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre for the 94th Academy Awards (commonly called “The Oscars”) this Sunday, she will be full of excitement and joy. Her life has been turned upside down since the success of Joachim Trier’s “Verdens Verste Menneske” in which she is the star. Reinsve has been globetrotting the world, from red carpet to red carpet, from Cannes to New York, and everywhere in between attending screenings, award ceremonies, and special events.

Yet for an actress who has spent most of her life in Norwegian theatre, this change of lifestyle takes some getting used to. “It’s quite absurd” she told NTB just over 3 weeks ago saying that, “it’s a life I never thought I would live. It is very exciting to be allowed to be on that side of it.”

Having just finished a fitting session with Louis Vuitton for dresses for the BAFTA and Oscar ceremonies, she noted that it was a little different from her life back in Norway. “It is a completely different world. A very luxurious world. I am very happy to live a very simple life here at home, but I like the contrast.” She assured NTB that she had her feet very much on the ground thanks, though, to her group of friends back home in Norway and that she was glad she wasn’t 19 when all this glitz and glamour occurred.

Hollywood beckons but what is her next step?

Given the runaway success of her role as Julie in the film, there are endless possibilities for her career. Yet Reinsve is a little apprehensive about her next step. She noted that indeed “there is a much greater pressure in the US on what choices you make, and what projects and what signals you send out. So it will have a lot to say which projects I choose next.”

The film was the first time that Reinsve had starred in a leading role and she hopes for more collaboration with the film’s director, Joachim Trier, and co-writer Eskil Vogt – who have been nominated for an Oscar in the “Best Original Screenplay” category.

Reinsve said she knew the movie was a special one when she was in the process of shooting it.
“It is a film in Norway, so we had no idea that it would take off as completely as it has done, and be so well received. But when we were on set” the actress explained, “I had a feeling that the script and what we did meant and touched a lot of people on set.”

The film is nominated in two Oscar categories: International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay.

The Oscars take place on Sunday, March 28 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California.
