On Wednesday, the royal couple celebrate their wedding anniversary with a party and church service. In advance, the couple will drive down Karl Johan in the same car as during the wedding 50 years ago.
On August 29th, it is 50 years since King Harald and Queen Sonja married at the Oslo Cathedral. Their day is marked on their wedding anniversary with a service in the same church.
Now it is clear that the royal couple will be driving in an open car to Oslo Cathedral before the service at 15.00.
‘’The king and queen will be driving in the same car on the same route as they drove on their anniversary 50 years ago. Then it will be possible to stand along the route to see the couple,” said Sven Gj. Gjeruldsen, Head of Communications at the Royal House to NTBnews.
The royal family in brief
From the castle, the king’s cortege will drive down Karl Johans gate to Kirkegata, where it will turn into Oslo Cathedral. After the service, the royal pair will be driven back the same way.
The car was also used during the wedding of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit in 2001, and is a Lincoln Continental from 1966 with the registration number A-5.
A few minutes before the royal couple drive, there will be a parade including the Crown Prince’s family, Princess Märtha Louise and the children, and Princess Astrid.
