Significant drop in the number of pilgrims
Foreign pilgrims this year have been absent due to the travel restrictions, but several Norwegians have, this year, showed interest in the hikes.
-”From the 15th of July this year, we have had a decrease in visitors of around 75 percent, compared with the same time last year.”, said the manager of the Pilgrims Center, Dale-Gudbrand in Gudbrandsdalen, Per Gunnar Haglien, To Nationen.
He adds that this year, they have seen a large increase of Norwegians on pilgrimage.
Norway has nine Pilgrimage sites, known as St. Olavs roads, which leads to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. The trip in Gudbrandsdalen is the most famous.
The pilgrimages are especially popular among German tourists in Norway, Bragelien states.
-”Next come the hikers from Switzerland, plus a long list of other European countries.” he adds.
