Toronto artist wins Queen Sonja’s graphic award

The Canadian-Japanese artist, Emma Nishimura,was awarded the Queen Sonja Print Award.

 

Queen Sonja was responsible for the ceremony at The Royal Academy in London on Thursday.

Nishimura is based in Toronto and has created works that have received international recognition,such as traditional etchings, drawings, and art installations.

This is the second time the award has gone to a foreign artist. Nishimura will receive a grant of NOK 400,000, and a stay at Atelje Larsen in Helsingborg.

The Queen’s Art Prize, the Queen Sonja Nordic Art Award, was awarded the first time in 2012.The Art-loving queen has described it as a dream come true. After the 2014 distribution, the award was made international and changed its name.
