The country’s municipalities will receive 1.6 million rapid tests during this and next week. The Norwegian Directorate of Health has changed the system for distributing tests.

Until now, the municipalities have been given rapid tests based on population and on what the municipalities themselves have ordered, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) writes.

“But then some municipalities have probably ordered more than they need. Others may have been a little slow with the order. It is also the case that the need for rapid tests is much greater in Eastern Norway than in other regions,” assistant health director Espen Rostrup Nakstad said.

New distribution system

The Norwegian Directorate of Health now distributes tests according to population and how many tests the municipalities have left in stock.

The list of the municipalities that will receive rapid tests in the first round was sent out in a letter from the directorate. In this round, 1.6 million tests will be sent out.

Oslo, Drammen, and Asker are some of the municipalities that will receive the most tests based on population.

By New Year, the directorate expects to receive 8 million rapid tests that will be forwarded to Norwegian municipalities.
