An 11-year-old died in a fire in a multi-family home in Sandefjord on Sunday, the police announced on Twitter.

“The next of kin have been notified and are in the care of health personnel. The police have cordoned off the area pending further crime scene investigations,” they wrote.

“We will investigate several hypotheses,” operations manager Øystein Eikedalen in the Southeastern Police District told NTB.

There is currently no suspicion that the fire was initiated on purpose. The fire has been extinguished, and the police are waiting for forensic technicians to analyze the site.

The police were notified of the fire at 3:40 AM on Sunday. All residents of the home are accounted for.

For a while, there was a danger of the fire spreading. Neighboring buildings were therefore evacuated. But later in the night, the fire department announced that the crews had control over the fire.
