During the week, 126 prisoners in Norwegian prisons received advanced release to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection, reports the Norwegian Correctional Service Directorate.
Advance release means that the convicted person is released 10, 20 or 30 days earlier than scheduled.
On Monday, the Directorate decided that such releases should be used to reduce the number of prison inmates. As of March, there are still 147 inmates sharing rooms, and the Correctional Service is working to reduce this figure.
Currently, an additional 73 deferred releases are scheduled for the next few weeks, the Directorate says.
