In 40 musk ox herds, 71 adult cows and 49 calves have been registered after the summer musk ox count ended.
The number of calves born this year is thus above the average for the component on Dovrefjell, Tord Bretten from the Norwegian Environmental Protection Agency informs Gudbrandsdølen Dagningen.
Dovrefjell is the core area for musk in Norway. Bretten knows from the count last winter that there are 120 adult cows in the musk ox tribe. He estimates that 80 calves have been born this year after well over half of the cows were found in the calf count.
