An 18-year-old woman from Trøndelag has received death threats and international attention after eating her own horse.

The threats have accumulated since Pia Olden from Bjugn last week posted a picture of the food on Facebook. The meal is her former horse, Drifting Speed.

According to NRK, she has received death threats in Norwegian, Russian, French and Spanish.

“It is possible that I have become the world’s most hated 18-year-old. Many people write that I am a psychopath, that they hope I don’t have children and that I should be deprived of the right to have animals,” said Olden.

The woman, however, added the horse had an incurable condition which meant it had to be killed. The 18-year-old’s meal was featured in both the British Daily Mail and the US New York Post.

“In the newspapers I sound like a cold-blooded killer, who suddenly one day got hungry and went to the stable and killed my horse,” said Olden.

Researcher Annechen Bahr Bugge said that humans have developed a relationship with horses that makes us perceive them as inedible. Still, she thinks that the 18-year-old from Bjugn is innovative.

“We have become more concerned with a sustainable diet, and in that light Olden’s action is great. She chose to let the horse become food rather than let it rot and become garbage,” she added.

  1. It’s normal to eat your sick horse in Norway, since food and other resources are so expensive.

  2. So when we eat each others horses, when we buy hamburger meat in the store for our sandwiches,
we are very good human citizens
we could be eating our neighbors old horse right now sitting next to that neighbor, who we just offered a sandwich…
