A now 20-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Sofie Vo Nguyen (20), with whom he lived in Bergen, in September last year.

“This is a very serious case,” public prosecutor Silje Solheim told the newspaper Bergens Tidende.

According to the newspaper, the man is also accused of putting the woman’s cat in a washing machine, where it was found dead after a few days.

20-year-old Sofie Vo Nguyen was found dead in an apartment she rented in Åsane in Bergen on September 26 last year. The man charged with the murder lived with the woman, but the two were not lovers.

The man has confessed to the murder, and he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for preliminary observation. A full observation of the man was later carried out, and the conclusion was that the man was sane.

“The experts have assessed him as sane. There are no circumstances that indicate that his sanity is important for a possible indictment,” his defender, lawyer Erik Johan Mjelde, told Bergens Tidende in June.
