No children can play outside, and all children should sleep inside. These are some of the measures one of Bergen’s largest kindergartens is implementing after warning of high air pollution.

Espira kindergarten in Rådal has 255 children and is located at one of the busiest crossings in the city. On Wednesday afternoon, parents and guardians were told that the children are being held in because of high air pollution alerts, NRK writes.

– Since the red danger level has been announced, we are considering some relatively simple measures to avoid discomfort for the children, says kindergarten manager Anette Hem Reidarsen Espira Rå in the council to the channel.

The kindergarten has decided that all children should sleep inside and that no one gets to play outside. Some of the children are taken away from the area, according to NRK.

Bergen Municipality has announced that there is a danger of periodically high air pollution in traffic areas in Bergen. Until Sunday, little wind, weather and a risk of inversion are expected.

– When a weather type with low wind and inversion has been announced, we can get a situation with high pollution over several days. We have asked the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Port of Bergen to implement measures to reduce emissions and particulate matter, says climate agency Thor Haakon Bakke (MDG) to the municipality’s website.
