Due to the outbreak of the virus, beach cleaning activities across the country have been canceled. At the same time, more than 3,000 people have joined professional cleaning teams.

In the spring, the organization “In the same boat” will place five clearing teams in various locations along the Norwegian coast. The teams receive professional training and must be in the home quarantine for 14 days before boarding the work boats. The goal is to clear 1,000 tonnes of garbage.

Project manager Rolf-Ørjan Høgset tells NRK that many Norwegian and foreign students have signed up for service.

“Right now, over 3,000 are on the waiting list,” he says.
