A pig farmer from Jæren has been charged after 340 dead pigs were found on his farm in 2017.
According to the indictment, the farmer in the period from September to the 27 November 2017 failed to provide for a portion of the 900 pig herd with sufficient feed and water, writes Dagsavisen.
The Norwegian Food Safety Authority discovered the situation during inspections on the farm on the 24 and 27 November 2017. 340 dead pigs were then detected to varying degrees of putrefaction, with several lying in common pens with other animals. Many of the dead pigs had been eaten by other pigs
During the inspection, at least 45 pigs were euthanized and at least ten pigs died on their own.
The case will be taken up by the Jæren District Court on 16 November.
