During the 20 years that Norway has participated in military operations in Afghanistan, the Armed Forces have had around 400 locally employed Afghans. A total of 466 Afghans have applied for residence, according to the figures that Forsvarets forum got from the Ministry of Defense.

“The Armed Forces does not have an overview of personnel who have had minor jobs associated with a contractor,” Armed Forces spokesman Thomas Gjesdal noted.

Not all applicants are affiliated with Norway or the Armed Forces, and some have applied several times.

“Many are still being processed. The figures and lists must therefore be quality assured.”

The Ministry and the Armed Forces will make an assessment of who has actually been employed and whether they should be given priority. The applications are then submitted to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) for the final decision.
