There were 507 asylum seekers arriving in Norway in the first quarter of this year. This is well over 50 more than during the same period last year.
About 20% of the asylum seekers who have come to Norway so far this year are from Syria.
Turks are in second place with 57 applicants.
This is shown in figures from the Directorate of Immigration (UDI). In total, applications have been received from citizens from more than 60 different countries.
About 150 of the asylum seekers this year are children, but most come with their family. Only 32 of the asylum seekers in the first three months of the year have declared themselves unaccompanied minors.
At the end of the third quarter last year, there were just over 3,400 asylum seekers at Norwegian asylum reception centers. One-third of the residents are waiting for an answer to their application or a reply to their appeal if rejected.
