By the end of August, 5,000 Norwegians had applied to stay in the UK after leaving the EU.

To date, around 1.3 million EU and EEA citizens have made use of the British scheme to apply for a further residence permit after Brexit. 1.1 million have already been granted temporary or permanent residence.

Figures from the UK Ministry of the Interior show that there are 5,000 Norwegians among the applicants so far, of whom 1,200 applied in August.

People who live in the UK and have been there for more than five years can apply for permanent residence. Those with shorter residence time can apply for temporary residence and apply for permanent status later.

There are around 3.2 million EU citizens living in the UK. In addition to these, EEA citizens and Swiss and their spouses – regardless of nationality – can apply for residence.
