A total of 58 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Bergen after tests performed Friday through Monday, Bergen Municipality reported on Tuesday.

Out of the total, 36 are close contacts, six cases are cases of imported infection, and twelve people have an unknown route of infection, Bergen Municipality noted.

Most infected people are in their 20s or younger.

“We have had high numbers in the last 14 days. Today’s numbers probably seem very high, but if we look at the test dates, we see that the numbers are at about the same level as they have been the last two weeks,” chief infection control officer Egil Bovim noted in a press release.

The proportion of positive tests is increasing

Since July 15, an average of 22 people has been diagnosed with coronavirus per day. The chief infection control officer says he is concerned about the increasing proportion of positive tests.

“After July 15, the proportion has risen to over 1%, and on Sunday, it was at its highest so far this summer with 2.6%. That is a confirmation that there is a certain infection pressure in Bergen right now,” Bovim said.

“In today’s figures, there are many people with unknown routes of infection, and we don’t like that,” Bovim added.

Bergen Municipality is now in dialogue with the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) about the infection situation.

Children among those infected

One child aged five or younger is infected. Furthermore, five people between the ages of 13 and 19 and 29 people in their 20s are infected.

Twelve people in their 30s, six in their 40s, three in their 50s, one person in their 60s, and one person over the age of 80 are also among those infected.

A total of 1,672 people tested themselves on Monday.
