A house burned down in Stokmarknes. The police are looking for arsonists

Four people have been left homeless after a detached house was severely damaged in a fire at Stokmarknes in Vesterålen on Saturday night. Police believe the fire was started on purpose.

At 4:10 AM, the emergency services were notified of a fire in Regine Normann’s road in Stokmarknes.

“The fire spread to a residential house, and four residents were evacuated. While the extinguishing work was going on, the fire crews discovered that there was smoke on another site about 150 meters away. Thus, they also had to put out that fire,” operations manager Kjetil Kaalaas in Nordland Police District told NTB.

He said the police believe both fires have been started on purpose, and he asked everyone who may have seen something in the area to contact the police.

“Everyone who has been in the area between 3:00 AM and 5.30 AM could have information that is of interest to us,” the operations manager noted.

No residents were injured in the fire.
