A man from Latvia died in a boat accident in Averøy

A man in his 50s from Latvia is confirmed dead after a boat accident in Hasløysundet in Averøy municipality in Møre og Romsdal, Sunday afternoon.

It was the police in Møre og Romsdal who reported that the man, who was critically injured after the accident, did not survive his injuries 23.30 on Sunday evening. Relatives are being notified.

There were four men from Latvia in the boat when it crashed. Three of them managed to reach shore, while the fourth was found under the boat.

The injured man was given heart and CPR by health personnel on the scene before being flown by a Sea King rescue helicopter to St. Olav’s hospital in Trondheim.

The Latvians were aged from 30 to 60 years. They were on holiday together in Norway and had rented a boat when the accident occured, reports operations manager John Bratland in More and Romsdal police district to NRK.

– “The three of them have been questioned, and they are now being looked after,” says Bratland.

The cause of the accident is currently unclear.
