The Norwegian-American investor Morten Simonsen is donating NOK 52 million to the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (Redningsselskapet). The money will go to the construction of a new rescue ship.

The ship will be 176th in the company’s history and will be named RS 176 Leif-Erik Simonsen, after Morten Simonsen’s father.

The ship will be built at the shipyard Swede Ship Marine AB in Sweden and will have a range of 400 nautical miles, a towing power of 12 tons, and a top speed of 38 knots.

“It is a state-of-the-art and advanced rescue ship that can quickly move out in almost all conditions,” acting general secretary Martin Fuhr-Bolstad in the Society for Sea Rescue stated.
