The teacher who was arrested on Thursday and charged with child abuse at the school where he works has also previously been investigated for abuse.
“The accused has previously been reported to the police for sexual acts with children under 16, in 2019,” police lawyer Celin Hauge Andersen in the Western Police District wrote in an SMS to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).
She wrote that the case was investigated and dismissed due to the state of the evidence.
The man was arrested on Thursday last week and charged with raping a student under the age of 14 at the school where he is a teacher. On Saturday, the man was remanded in custody for four weeks.
On Monday, Andersen told the newspaper VG that the man is also charged with sexual acts against children under the age of 16. The man has admitted to the crimes he is charged with, according to NTB.
The police attorney told NRK on Tuesday morning that in light of the current circumstances, it is natural to take another look at the case from 2019.
