The Norwegian Maritime Directorate registered 26 deaths related to leisure boats in 2021.

The number of deaths in 2021 is higher than in 2020 – 6 more deaths have been registered. The average age of those who died was 59 years. Out of the total, 25 of the dead were men.

“This shows that we all need to become better at thinking about safety when we are out at sea…” director Knut Arild Hareide stated in a press release.

In nine of the cases for 2021, it has been confirmed that the deceased persons were under the influence, the Norwegian Maritime Directorate stated.
