So far this year, 649 forest fires have been registered in Norway. 400 of these took place in April. The Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) continues to have three forest fire helicopters on standby.

“Recently, we have seen larger and more demanding fires, some of these also closer to buildings. It is worrying,” department director Johan Marius Ly in the DSB stated.

The forest fire danger index shows that there are several areas with a locally high forest fire danger. In some places, the danger increases further in the coming days.

The DSB states that a total of three helicopters will remain on standby – one at Kjeller and one at Sauda, in addition to the fixed station at Torp. For the time being, this setup applies until and including Thursday, when a new assessment will be made.
