Among the Labor Party (AP) and the Center Party (SP) government’s 44 new state secretaries, only one has a minority background, the newspaper Aftenposten writes.

Only Nancy Herz, State Secretary for Labor and Social Inclusion for Hadia Tajik (AP), has a minority background. She will work on integration.

Of the 19 ministers and 44 state secretaries, only two have immigrant backgrounds – Herz and Tajik. Herz has a background from Lebanon, while Tajik has a background from Pakistan.

Nancy Herz admits that she has long looked up to the new minister.

“When I was little, I saw that she looked like me. She looked like someone I could recognize myself in,” she told Aftenposten.

She said that she thinks the focus on diversity is good.

“There is always, in all parts of society, room for more diversity and more different voices. Everyone has a responsibility,” she noted.
