According to the newspaper Aftonbladet, a man has been arrested in Stockholm under suspicion for the murder of a 12-year-old girl. She was killed in Botkyrka last year.

The newspaper writes that the arrest took place early Tuesday morning in a house in the Stockholm suburb of Årsta. The police confirm that there has been a police operation in the area related to an older investigation.

“I do not want to comment and will neither confirm nor deny (the arrest). We are in an intensive investigation phase,” public prosecutor Anna Svedin stated.

The arrest included a dozen armed police officers, according to witnesses.

Allegedly, DNA analyzes from the crime scene led the police to the man who has now been arrested, Aftonbladet reports.

Case background

On the night of August 2 last year, twelve-year-old Adriana was hit by shots outside a hamburger restaurant in Botkyrka, south of Stockholm. She died shortly afterward from the injuries.

Automatic weapons were used in the shooting incident, according to the police. The police believe that the shots were aimed at criminals who were at the scene.

Several people have previously been arrested in the case under suspicion of complicity. Three suspects have been wanted internationally, and they are believed to have gone into hiding in Turkey.
