A man has been sentenced by the Alta District Court to five years in prison for raping, threatening, and stabbing his former cohabitant in the back.

The man is already serving a three-year sentence. His former cohabitant was also the victim in that case. When the new case came up in Alta District Court, the man pleaded guilty to the stabbing but not to the rape.

However, the court came to the conclusion that he should be convicted of rape, stabbing, and making threats, newspaper Altaposten writes.

The violent incident took place on June 13, 2019, just before the man was about to start serving his first sentence. According to the woman’s explanation, the man came to her and said that he planned to flee abroad to avoid the prison sentence and that he would kill the woman if the police stopped.

Has to pay NOK 250,000 in compensation

The man then used a knife to force her to undress before raping her, the ex-cohabitant explained. The man believed this happened voluntarily, before he became violent towards her in connection with an argument afterward.

The woman was stabbed twice in the back before the man left her in the apartment, locked the door, and went to get a friend. After returning, they drove her to the emergency room.

The Alta District Court chose to sentence the man to prison for five years. He also has to pay the woman NOK 250,000 in compensation.

The court pointed out that the degree and extent of the violence were large and that the victim was unconscious for part of the time.
