US praises Norway’s role in the diplomacy that led to a peace agreement in Colombia.
Wednesday night Norwegian time it was confirmed that the two parties agree on a peace treaty. Norway and Cuba have played important roles as facilitators for the protracted peace negotiations in a conflict that has lasted over 50 years.

– United States congratulates the Colombian authorities to have reached agreement on the main elements of the peace agreement with the Colombian Armed Revolutionary Forces (FARC).

We applaud the role Norway has played as a mediator and co-guarantor of this successful peace process, according to a statement from the US ambassador in Oslo, Samuel Heins.

– This agreement demonstrates the value of the sustained peace and reconciliation efforts that Norway is engaged in around the world, said the ambassador.

The peace agreement will be signed next month and then be submitted to referendum in Colombia in October.
