The planned strength of 300 US troops to Vaernes in Trondelag might happen just after the New Year
According to the newspaper Adresseavisen an initiative for the rotation of US marine infantrymen at Værnes has been put into place. This process, which has been ongoing for one year, is now in the final stages both practically and politically.
It is allegedly reported that bunk beds are being installed at this time, for the infantrymen’s use.
The US has initiated the deployment and Norwegian parliamentarians were informed in January.
The Norwegian government’s plans, according to the Adresseavisen will be to issue a briefing on the case to the foreign and defence committees, with no parliamentary action.
The reason for this is that the American presence is already secured in agreements with Norway’s allies.
The political parties, Left, SV, FRP and the Centre Party have questioned the plans, and the Liberal leader Trine Skei Grande has called the plans an “outsourcing” of taking care of our country. The Labour party has said that they support the plans.
