The workload of many nurses in Norway increased significantly in the first year of the coronavirus pandemic. The Innlandet Hospital Trust tops the list with an increase of 51%, according to an overview from P4, which collected figures from twelve hospitals around the country.

Compared with the previous year, the number of overtime hours increased from 54,000 to 81,500 at the Innlandet Hospital Trust in the first twelve months after the corona hit.

The increase in overtime varied a great deal from hospital to hospital. In Northern Norway, the increase amounted to 2-3%, while Ahus registered an increase of almost 15%. Vestfold Hospital had an increase of more than 34%, and Innlandet Hospital reported an increase of 51%, according to the survey.

The large increase is due to a combination of following up on corona patients, increased use of infection control measures, increased absence due to quarantine, and less access to substitutes from abroad due to entry restrictions, according to HR director Cecilie Nyland at the Innlandet Hospital Trust.

Again, the Center for Disease Control recommends facemasking in schools.
