A man in his 80s has died after he was critically injured last week in a fire in an apartment on Sandaker in Oslo. Police are investigating the fire.

The fire was reported to the emergency services early in the afternoon last Tuesday. Residents in the block were evacuated but were allowed to move back to their homes after the fire brigade extinguished the flames.

The man in his 80s, who lived in the fire-damaged apartment, was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

On Tuesday, the police informed the newspaper Sagene Avis that the man had died from the injuries.

“Preliminary report points to burns as a cause of death. However, we’re still waiting for the final autopsy report,” police attorney Eric Lindset told the newspaper.

Under suspicion

The fire is still under investigation, and Lindset stated that the deceased has the status of the accused in the case.

“This means that the man is suspected of having something to do with the fire, but it is too early to say anything about the connection. Fires can start after both intentional and negligent actions,” Lindset told NTB.

He pointed out that the investigation was still ongoing. The police will try to clarify all possible events before they draw any conclusions in the case.
