During the cleaning of a block of flats at Disen in Oslo on Friday, dynamite was found in the basement. The apartment block was immediately evacuated.

Operation leader Magne Olsvoll in the Oslo police district informed news bureau NTB that the police bomb squad would decide what happens next.

“We have several patrols up there that have cordoned off the area so that no one can get into the basement where the dynamite is located,” he said.

The dynamite may have been in the basement for a long time.

“We do not know who placed it there or when it was placed there. But the passage of time does not always make explosives less dangerous.

“It’s not a large amount, but it is enough for us to take precautions,” Olsvoll added.

Block evacuated

The block that is being evacuated is four stories high.

The operations manager says that he does not know how many apartments there are in the block nor how many have been evacuated.

“There are probably residents there who have to find another place to live in the short term. This may take some time. Hopefully, it will be resolved during the afternoon,” he concluded.

The police were notified of the dynamite discovery just before 1:30 PM.
