Several Arab media reported on Sunday that a rocket attack targeted the airbase Ain al-Asad in Iraq, where several Norwegian soldiers are stationed.

Ivar Moen, the spokesman at the Armed Forces’ operational headquarters, told newspaper VG that there had been a rocket attack near the camp around noon on Sunday.

“The most important thing is that all the Norwegians down there have been accounted for and that no one has been physically injured,” he told the newspaper.

Moen currently has no more information about the incident.

Multiple attacks

The camp has been subjected to several attacks in the last year. Among other incidents, at the end of May, a rocket landed inside Ain al-Asad without anyone being injured.

A guard and security force of around 30 Norwegian soldiers is stationed at the large airbase. It is located about 200 km from Syria and used in the fight against ISIS.
