Ari Behn took his own life on Christmas Day

Ari Behn took his own life on Christmas Day, his longtime manager Geir Håkonsund reports to NTB. Behn was 47 years old.

– “It is with great sadness in our hearts that we, the closest relatives of Ari Behn, must announce that he took his own life today. We ask for respect for our privacy in the time to come,” informs Ari Behn’s family via press contact Geir Håkonsund to NTB.

In connection with Ari Behn’s passing, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen, have announced the following on the King’s website:

“It is with great sadness the Queen and I have received the message of Ari Behn’s passing. Ari has been an important part of our family for many years, and we carry warm, fond memories of him. We are grateful that we got to know him. We grieve that our grandchildren have now lost their beloved father – and have deep compassion for his parents and siblings, who have lost their beloved son and brother. We pray that Ari’s immediate family will be at ease during this painful time. ”

A good friend
At the same time, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have the following message:

“For us, Ari was a good friend, a dear family member and an amazing uncle, with whom we shared many of life’s small and big moments. It is with great sadness that we have received the message of his passing. We were all very fond of Ari. Our thoughts go especially to Maud, Leah, Emma, Princess Märtha Louise and Ari’s immediate family. ”

Prime Minister Erna Solberg expresses her deepest condolences to Ari Behn’s family and survivors:

“I want to express my deepest condolences to Ari Behn’s family, leaving behind his tragic passing. My thoughts go to everyone who loved him,” writes Prime Minister Erna Solberg in a message to NTB on Wednesday night.

Married in Nidaros Cathedral
Ari Behn was born in Aarhus and lived for his first years in Denmark and England. His family then moved to Lavangen in Troms, before settling in Moss in Østfold when he was six years old.

In adulthood he changed his surname from Bjørshol to his grandmother’s original surname Behn.

Ari Behn and Princess Märtha Louise married in Nidaros Cathedral on May 24, 2002 and were separated in 2016 and divorced in 2017.

Ari Behn and Princess Märtha Louise have three daughters together: Maud Angelica, Leah Isadora and Emma Tallulah. They have had shared custody for the children.

Author and visual artist
Behn debuted in 1999 with the critically acclaimed short story collection “Sad as hell” and also received good reviews for the sequel “Talent for Happiness” in 2011.

He has also made documentaries for television and been a writer for newspapers such as Dagbladet and Aftenposten, as well as several magazines.
