According to a new laboratory study, the third dose of AstraZeneca’s vaccine increases the number of antibodies that work against the omicron variant of the coronavirus.
The effect of the booster dose on the omicron variant corresponds to the effect that the second dose had on the delta variant, a statement from AstraZeneca published on Thursday noted.
Thus, the third dose prevents infection and serious illness due to the omicron variant, the company believes.
The laboratory study was conducted at the University of Oxford, which also contributed to the development of the vaccine.
