At least nine corona-infected people under the age of 19 have received intensive care at Norwegian hospitals, newspaper Bergens Tidende writes.

Figures from the Norwegian intensive care and pandemic register show that eight children have completed their intensive care stay.

A child is currently receiving such treatment at Haukeland University Hospital, which means that the total number is at least nine.

“There are often slightly different reasons why children with corona end up in the intensive care unit. Many of those who have been admitted have had mild COVID-19 disease, but a few weeks later had a severe immune reaction. Then they have been monitored and treated with immunosuppressants in the intensive care unit,” chief physician Reidar Kvåle told the newspaper.

According to Kvåle, a minority of the eight previously admitted children in intensive care needed respiratory treatment.
