At the end of May, the number of inmates in Norwegian prisons amounted to 2,921

There were 2,921 inmates in Norwegian prisons at the end of May/beginning of June. At the beginning of June, the occupancy rate in prisons was 78%.

A total of 132 of the inmates were women, which makes up 4.5%, according to monthly figures from the Norwegian Correctional Service (Kriminalomsorgen).

Nine of the inmates are under the age of 18, and 718 people were foreign nationals.

As of 31 May, 72 people were isolated. For 32 of these, the reason was infection control considerations. 

In May 2021, inmates were put into isolation a total of 546 times. Among these instances, inmates were partially isolated in 120 cases and completely isolated in 426 cases.
