Nearly 2 million Norwegians traveled to, from, or via Avinor’s airports in January 2022. That is an increase of 123% compared with the same month last year.

Oslo Airport is experiencing the largest increase with a total of 430,000 domestic passengers, an increase of 107% compared with January 2021. In addition, there were almost as many passengers traveling abroad, i.e., 411,000. That is an increase of 413% more than the year before.

“International traffic is now about as large as the one on domestic routes from the main airport. This is despite the omicron virus, which is affecting society at the moment,” director of traffic development in Avinor Gaute Skallerud Riise stated.

The company believes that the increase may be related to a high degree of vaccination, corona certificates, and a general increased desire to travel in the population.
