Lawyer refutes that rape accused on Benidorm are released
The lawyer of the five French nationals, charged with the rape of a Norwegian woman on Benidorm Island in Spain, refutes reports that two of them are released from custody.
The Spanish television channel Tele Cinco reported that two of the five were temporarily released earlier in the day.
Defender of the rape indicted men, Lawyer Gilberto Ruiz Girado, denies this to VG. The men explain themselves to the Benidorm District Court on Thursday night.
“No one has been released,” Ruiz tells VG.
The interrogations are expected to take awhile, as they are done individually and have to be translated.
The five French nationals, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on Wednesday, suspected of gang-raping a Norwegian woman in her twenties. Benidorm police believe that the five men have assaulted the woman’s 19-years-old friend as well, writes Dagbladet.
The 19-years-old allegedly left the building where the assaults took place ‘after unwanted sexual advances’. After the alleged rape, the Norwegian women visited the local emergency room together. The doctor at the centre notified the police.
Holiday on Benidorm
Press contact of the Alicante regional police (Guardia Civil), Beatriz García, informs Dagbladet that she does not know how the men react to the charges. Sources tell the Spanish news agency Efe that the men deny having assaulted the women. They are supposedly on vacation on Benidorm.
The suspects and the Norwegian woman have met through social media, according to several Spanish media.
