Bergen municipality will not report the school pupil who revealed
safety failures after entering illegally into the municipality’s computer

The municipality has now decided to withdraw the police report and notified the family about this on Monday night according to NRK news.

‘’As we now know the case in its entirety and have followed it for almost a year, we have come to the conclusion that it is right to withdraw the police report’’ said municipal director, Trine Samuelsberg to NRK.

The 13-year-old gave notice last year that the usernames and password of 35,000 teachers and pupils in the Bergen School district were openly available, but no one reacted to the warning.

The school student then entered the computer system to reveal the failure, which led to the police being notified and seizing the boy’s computer equipment.

Both the police and the municipality have received sharp criticism for their handling of the case. Previously, the municipality accepted the Data Inspectorate’s decision of NOK 1.6 million in fees after the safety deviation.
