Due to increased sickness absence among doctors and nurses, the Bergen emergency room encourages residents to contact them only in the event of acute illness or injury.

“In recent days, sick leave has been increasing, and the situation is now demanding,” emergency room manager Anne Karoline Tyssøy Pedersen noted in a press release.

Employees who should have had time off have been called in to handle the workload.

“We still have enough staff to attend to those who need emergency help, but we must be stricter in our priorities now,” chief physician and medical officer at the emergency room Trond Inselseth stated.

People are encouraged to call before visiting the emergency room and contact their GP if their conditions allow it.
