Bergen, Stavanger, and Trondheim municipalities are putting the use of AstraZeneca’s corona vaccine on hold.
Bergen Municipality is putting the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine on hold until the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) and the Norwegian Medicines Agency have clarified the situation.
Medical specialist Trond Egil Hansen in Bergen Municipality told newspaper Bergens Tidende (BT) that they think the messages from Denmark are so serious that the vaccine’s use will be paused immediately.
“The messages from Denmark are so serious that the Norwegian Medicines Agency and the FHI have a meeting already this morning. Then, we will pause the vaccination to wait for their conclusion,” Hansen said.
“We do not believe now that this vaccine has become very dangerous, but the latest information indicates that we have to wait for conclusions from national authorities,” Hansen added.
Stavanger and Trondheim also pause vaccination
Both Stavanger and Trondheim will stop using the AstraZeneca vaccine temporarily after reports of side effects.
Trondheim is awaiting more information from the Norwegian Medicines Agency and national authorities, project manager Helge Garåsen told the newspaper Adresseavisen on Thursday afternoon.
Health director Runar Johannessen informed the newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad that Stavanger Municipality would also pause the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Sandnes will do the same, according to the newspaper Sandnesposten.
Denmark and several European countries have stopped using the vaccine due to suspicion that it can lead to severe blood clots. There is one death in Denmark allegedly related to the case.
No connection has been established between the cases and the vaccine.
