Bergen beat Moss and Voss in the competition to become Norway’s most attractive city in 2019. The jury highlights the western capital as brave and innovative.

It is amazing that the jury has chosen Bergen as Norway’s most attractive city. I am looking forward to awarding this prize to all the citizens of Bergen on June 12, says the Minister of Local Government and Modernization ,Monica Mæland (H) – also a ‘Bergenser’ and former City Council leader in her hometown.

Bergen was in the final together with Moss and Voss. The jury described all three as strong finalists, but the choice eventually fell on Bergen.

Bergen takes courageous and innovative approaches to creating an attractive city. Expertise, dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration are important tools, and the city has placed strong focus on urban spaces and new connections that link the city together and make it appear attractive, also outside its historical center, says juror Alexandria Algard.

The prize consists of NOK 250,000, as well as a plaque and a diploma.

It makes me happy and proud that Bergen receives the prize for Norway’s most attractive city. Bergen must be a city for everyone. This award shows that we are on the right track, says Mayor Marte Mjøs Persen (AP).
